Getting back to Posting

I can't believe that it has taken this long to restart my blog posting and updates.  We have made it to the ranch, and mostly settled in, but have had to live with dial-up internet access.  We finally have high speed access (into the laundry room - not yet to the office) and I can finally give voice to the daily miracles in our lives without having to wait.  Blogging isn't impossible on dial-up - but it is extremely tedious and impractical.

Over the next few weeks I will be adding more about the transformation of the ranch and the new animals and friends that have come into our lives.  It has been a grand, exhausting and scary time.  Grand in that our new location is so amazing and has such potential  Exhausting in the way that any 50 - 100 year old property is destined to be.  And scary as all new ventures are.

Interest in our new holistic health phone calls each week is beginning to grow and we have received some amazing press.  We hope to hear from all of you, either on the calls -or here on the blog.

Welcome and Namaste -

Kay

HOW TO GET YOUR ANIMALS TO A SAFE HOME IF YOU CAN’T CARE FOR THEM IN AN EMERGENCY

After Kay told me of a man who lived alone, was boarding several dogs and had a few of his own when he suddenly became ill and died, I started thinking of how to make sure my animals get to a safe place should something happen to me.

DO NOT RESUSCITATE, (DNR’s) are often kept in a ORANGE package in the freezer compartment of your refrigerator as this has the best chance of surviving a fire. I suggest we keep our instructions for the identification, care and distribution of our animals in the same place.

I hope we all think about who would care for our children if the unthinkable happens to us, but how many of us have made the same considerations for our Animal Companions?

Since I hope we all have a Will and A Living Will or a set of Medical Directives to say who makes decisions about our health if we are not able to make choices about our own health care. So I am now suggesting that we now add an Animal Directives page to those papers.

AND THAT THE ANIMAL DIRECTIVES BE KEPT WHERE EMERGENCY SERVICES PEOPLE CAN FIND THEM!

Describe each of your animals, (an identified snap shot would be a help), and the name of that pet with and who is to care for her/him in case you can’t. Be sure you include how to contact those people!

If your area EMT’s don’t usually look in the freezer for directives, perhaps it would be a good phone call or letter to the Emergency Services Department in your area to suggest that they do! That they make it a policy to look for instructions in or on
the freezer!

Think of how many of us live “alone” with our furry, feathered, reptilian and other non-verbal pals. It is a good thing to help them out too...
